GTA 5 Reaches 85 Million Copies Shipped
When Take-Two Interactive announced its earnings this week, one very impressive fact came to light. GTA 5 has shipped 85 million copies. That is more units shipped than Wii Sports and that came bundled with consoles. That number also means that since May, GTA 5 has moved an additional 5 million copies.
GTA 5 is now the all-time best-selling video game in history. Take that PUBG. Take-Two also talked about GTA Online and announced that game had its best quarter yet in terms of money raked in from gamers. The specific amount of money the game made is unknown since revenue figures weren’t shared.
A large amount, 48%, of Take-Two’s revenue for this quarter came directly from “recurrent consumer spending” or virtual currency, DLC, and microtransactions. The games raking in the most money from this type of consumer spending were NBA 2K17, GTA Online, GTA V, WWE SuperCard, WWE 2K17, and Xcom 2.
One of the newest titles from the company, L.A. Noire, has now shipped 7.5 million copies and is only landing on Xbox One, PS4, and Switch later this month. Despite the strong sales for these games Take-Two still posted a $2.7 million loss for the quarter reports GameSpot.
