Google’s Nexus 7 Gets Overclock Treatment – Smashes Benchmarks @ 2 GHz

Google’s Nexus 7 tablet has been making waves for awhile now but now its doing it in an all new way. Clemsyn with help from a few others over on the XDA forums has released a new kernel which boosts the Nexus 7 all the way to 2 GHz. Originally it began as a modification for a 1.7 GHz overclock which was then bumped up to 1.8 GHz with the 2 GHz version currently being experimental. The CPU in the device isn’t the only part that gets the overclock treatment, with the “Elite” kernel upping the ante by pushing the GPU clock from 416 MHz to 600 MHz. That said, if your more conservative with your overclocking thats been covered to, with lower overclocks of 484 MHz and 520 Mhz also available for the GPU. While heat and component wear need to be considered as they do pose a serious problem, the performance increase on a heavily overclocked Nexus 7 is certainly amazing to see. With these extreme clocks it certainly makes the Nexus 7 more attractive to tweakers, but again for those more conservative types a 1.5 GHz option with lower voltages is also available but may not be stable on all Nexus 7’s. If it is stable on yours it means youll enjoy better performance without sacrificing battery life. Did we mention it demolishes benchmarks?
