Google Will Refund the $30 Overcharge on the Pixel 2 Sold at one Pop Up Store
When the Pixel 2 launched in some of the larger cities there were pop up stores that were put together just for the launch and then taken down later. One of those pop-up stores apparently had Google employees on hand to tell people about the Pixel 2 and other Google products. The folks who wanted to buy were handed off to a Verizon reseller manning the registers and delivering the product.
It seems that a Verizon reseller called Victra took it upon itself to dig a bit of extra cash out of Pixel 2 buyers at its pop-up store and overcharged buyers by $30. The reseller charged $680 for the Pixel 2 basic version and $780 for the 128GB version.
The Pixel XL 2 with 64GB of storage was sold for $880 and the 128GB version was sold for $980. You might think that people interested in the devices would know how much they should retail for, but it seems many did not. The $30 upcharges weren’t for activation fees or any taxes according to The Verge.
The Verge also states that if you called them out on the price difference, they would sell the phone to you at the normal rates. It seems that Google didn’t know Victra was marking up the devices. A spokesperson for the search giant issued a statement saying the overcharge was an “error” and that it would be reaching out and reimbursing those who overpaid.
