Google Nexus Tablet Shown – Nexus 7 w / Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean)
The Google I/O 2012 Conference is this week and rumor has it that Google will be introducing new hardware, software, and services at its annual developer conference. Google I/O, which begins Wednesday is already starting to create some major buzz and for good reason. We have heard rumors that Google’s follow up to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and that it will be released at the show. We also heard that the first product to run this new OS is a Google Nexus-branded tablet called the Nexus 7. According to the leak, its built by ASUS, with a 1.3GHz quad-core Tegra 3 processor, GeForce 12-core GPU and 1GB of RAM with two different storage variants: 8GB and 16GB. The Nexus tablet will also feature NFC and run Google Wallet (probably only in the US) and Android Beam. The screen is an IPS display with a 178-degree viewing angle, running a resolution of 1280 by 800. The device will also sport a 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera. The battery will also give you 9 hours worth of use. The 8GB model will be around $199 and the 16GB version will be around $249. We have also heard rumors that Google Playbox, Google TV Google Compute Cloud and other technologies will have major announcements at the show. The leaked document also says that the device will be the first to run Jelly Bean, the new version of Android. Details are scarce on Jelly Bean, but the slides tell us that Google will handle operating system updates from now on, which could address the fragmentation problem. We arent sure if this statement means that Google will handle all handset updates from Jelly Bean onwards, or if it just means it will handle it for the Nexus 7 going forward.
