Google Chrome Beats Out Internet Explorer To Become World’s #1 Browser

It’s been a while coming, but it would appear Google Chrome has secured its place as the number one web browser in the world. According to StatCounter, Chrome overtook Internet Explorer during the week of May 14th to May 20th, where it rose to 32.76% against Microsoft’s 31.94%. Granted Chrome slipped a bit this week, dropping to 31.88%, however it still retained a greater market share then Internet Explorer, which has dropped even further to 31.47%. It seems this time Google’s web browser will retain the crown, unlike our previous report where it only managed to last a day at the top. That said, Chrome has a long way to go when it comes to catching Microsoft’s Internet Explorer in the United States, where Google’s has 23.83% of the market versus Microsoft’s 37.81%. Only time will tell if Chrome will retain the title of number one browser in the world, but from the way things appear this time it might just stay that way.

Chrome Worlds #1 Web Browser

Despite its worldwide success, Chrome still has a ways to go to catch Internet Explorer in the U.S. In fact, StatCounter’s data shows that the week Chrome overtook Internet Explorer, Google’s browser held just 23.83 percent market share, compared to Microsoft’s 37.81 percent. Chrome’s success appears to have come in large part from Europe, where the browser outpaced Internet Explorer by more than 1 percentage point.
