Google Announces The Android Powered Nexus S Ships w/ Gingerbread 2.3

By

Google has officially announced the long rumored ‘Nexus S’, which is the Google Android Developer phone follow up to the original out of production Nexus or N1. Nexus S is the lead device for the highly anticipated Gingerbread/Android 2.3 release. The Nexus S delivers what Google is calling a pure Google experience: unlocked, unfiltered access to the best Google mobile services. It will be available on December 16th at Best Buy in the U.S. and at the Carphone Warehouse stores in the U.K., and the Nexus S will be unlocked and carrier independent. Best Buy has confirmed the Nexus S will sell for $529 at full retail price or $199 with 2-year contract on T-Mobile.

The company has also uploaded a new video that is worth a closer look. You might want to turn down the speakers though as the song is annoying. What do you think of the Nexus S? We noticed that it doesn’t have any expandable storage, has the single core processor and not the rumored dual-core chip, it can’t do HSPA+, no HDMI out, the video resolution is just 720480 and has just Bluetooth 2.1. Looks like it is missing a bunch of features end users would like to have.

Nexus S is the next generation of Nexus devices, co-developed by Google and Samsung. The latest Android platform (Gingerbread), paired with a 1 GHz Hummingbird processor and 16GB of memory, makes Nexus S one of the fastest phones on the market. It comes pre-installed with the best of Google apps and enabled with new and popular features like true multi-tasking, Wi-Fi hotspot, Internet Calling, NFC support, and full web browsing. With this device, users will also be the first to receive software upgrades and new Google mobile apps as soon as they become available.
