Google, Activision, and Nvidia to Join the Nasdaq 100

By

Google will lead a procession of Internet and software companies into the Nasdaq 100 when the index is reconstituted next week, the Nasdaq says. It looks like Google, Activision, RedHat, and Nvidia have made it into the Nasdaq 100.

Google was granted a waiver from the usual two-year waiting period for inclusion in the index because of the rapid growth of its market capitalization. The company is currently worth about $121 billion. The changes will take effect Dec. 19. The Nasdaq 100 is designed to comprise the largest and most liquid nonfinancial stocks on the Nasdaq. The addition of a stock to the group often creates buying interest in the market as mutual funds designed to mimic the index’s performance add it to their portfolios.
