Global Challenge Kiev Most Successful eSports Event in History

The Electronic Sports League (ESL) juse sent over an e-mail letting us know that the Intel Extreme Masters season 2011/12 is well underway. The first event took place on January 19 – 22, 2012 at the Cyber Sport Arena in Kiev, Ukraine, and was done with three game titles: Counter-Strike 1.6, StarCraft 2 and League of Legends. The best players from Europe, Asia and America competed for the slots in the upcoming World Championship event and their share of $93,000 event prize money, a piece of $643,000 total prize purse of the league in the 2011/12 season. The grand final of the Intel Extreme Masters, the World Championship, will take place in March at CeBIT 2012 in Hanover, Germany.

The Global Challenge Kiev was broadcasted live by ESL TV, the ESL’s web TV service, and reached 247,000 concurrent viewers making it thus the most successful event in the eSports history. The audience gathered in front of the screens around the world could enjoy the tournament via 13 ESL TV streams shoutcasted live in five languages (English, German, French, Russian and Polish). With the number of visitors attending live events and the number of viewers on the streams Intel Extreme Masters is now the leading international eSports league in the world.
