CPU-Z Benchmark

CPU-ID’s CPU-Z has been a popular freeware utility for a long time, that gathers system information on the PC into one location. With the latest version 1.73 they introduced a couple of new features. One of these new features is the integrated CPU Benchmark that provides a score and a Reference CPU that you can choose from a drop down menu. There are no reference Skylake processors available in the menu, so we chose a similar processor from a previous generation, an Intel i7-4790K running at 4.0GHz.

CPU-Z reports that the latest Intel i7-6700K is similar in performance to the reference i7-4790K for the single thread test (7 points difference). With the Multi Thread though, things look different, the i7-6700K pulls out ahead of the previous generation processor by close to 600 points.

Of course as this benchmark is CPU based, overclocking has an affect on the score. Single Thread, we see it go from 1637 to 1912, around 17% difference. Multi Thread, goes from 6491 to 7630, a 17.5% difference in scores.

Legit Bottom Line: We will look to see if there is any documentation on what CPU-Z is exactly benchmarking with its new tool, and will start to gather results as another benchmark to include. As it is, it shows a performance difference between an i7-4790K and the Intel Skylake i7-6700K.
