Gigabyte Motherboard Sales Down in 2011 – Switch Executives To Help

By

Taiwan-based motherboard maker Gigabyte Technology saw its motherboard shipments performance in the first half rather stable compared to its competitor Asustek Computer and has recently re-arranged its executive positions to fix the issues, according to sources from retail channel vendors. One thing that we noticed is that starting in January that Gigabyte began releasing newly designed X58 motherboards and the market for Intel X58 Express chipsets appears to have greatly declined.

The sources pointed out that Gigabyte’s strategy in early January to switch the position of its R&D and sales executives was the main reason for its out-of-line performance in the second half and Gigabyte has recently switched them back, hoping to regain the strong shipment growth as in 2010. Gigabyte originally expected its executive swap strategy would help further boost its R&D and sales ability, but the result has turned out differently. With the two executives returning to their original positions, the sources expect Gigabyte to resume its performance and return to the competition with Asustek in the third quarter.
