Gelid Launches ‘The Black Edition’ CPU Cooler
GELID Solutions today unveiled the companies new flagship CPU cooler for both AMD and Intel platforms, The Black Edition. With a name like that you’d expect the entire CPU cooler to be black, but just the top of the cooler and the fans are black as you can see in the image below.
Gelid’s “The Black Edition” CPU cooler features seven heatpipes and uses both Gelid Slim 12 PWM and Silent 12 PWM cooling fans, but you have the option of installing a third. This CPU cooler is fairly large and measures in at 109mm x 126mm x 160mm (LxWxH) with a weight of 990 grams.
Not all the heatpipes are the same as three are 8mm in diameter and four are 6mm to ensure maximum heat transfer from the hottest area of the core to the aluminum cooling fins.
Gelid GC-Extreme thermal compound is included with the cooler as well as mounting clips for AMD AM2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+, FM1, FM2 sockets and for Intel 775, 1155, 1156, 1366 & 2011 sockets. “The Black Edition” is available now and has an MSRP of USD 75 or Euro 59. The cooler is backed by a 5-year warranty.
Traditional heat pipe arrangement of high-end heatsink heatpipes are usually soldered on one row. Therefore the heat absorption capacity of the outer heatpipe will be negatively affected when there are more than 5 heatpipes. To solve this problem a special array of heatpipes was used on “The Black Edition” to take full advantage of all 7 6mm heatpipe heat transfer capacity. On “The Black Edition” two heatpipes were soldered on top of three middle heatpipes.
