Fortnite is Causing Divorces in the UK

Not everyone likes the incredibly popular battle royale game Fortnite. Some people dislike it for the microtransactions the game offers. Some dislike it for the gameplay and alleged copycat nature of the title. Despite any gripes, the game is popular.

A new claim has made the rounds out of the UK. This claim is that Fortnite is causing divorces in the country. Specifically, Divorce Online claims that Fortnite has contributed to 5% of all divorces in England and Wales. Fortnite and other games have been accused of leading many into video game addiction.

Divorce Online claims that during 2018 there have been over 200 divorce petitions filed citing Fortnite as a cause. Some of those petitions apparently also cited an addiction to online gambling reports NintendoLife.

The 200 petitions specifically citing Fortnite and gambling additions is out of 4,665 petitions filed since January 2018. It’s worth noting that it’s unclear just how many of these petitions only cite online gambling addiction as a cause for divorce.
