Firmware Fix For Intel SSD 320 Series Drives Coming This Month

By

Exactly one month ago we told you about an issue that was found on Intel SSD 320 Series drives that the community called the ‘8MB bug’ that left users with just 8MB of available space on their drive when the bug struck. At the end of the month Intel posted an update saying that a fix was in the works. Well, more than two weeks have passed since then and Intel has issued another update saying that new and fixed firmware will be out within the next two weeks. That means Intel SSD 320 series owners will see an update this month! This is great news for those that own this drive and also for Intel as some people have put off buying this drive until a fix was found. Let’s just hope the firmware release goes okay.

Intel has reproduced, identified root cause, and developed a firmware update which addresses the Bad Context 13x Error being discussed on the Communities site and elsewhere. The new firmware update is in final validation testing and is targeted for release on Intel Communities within the next two weeks. Intel takes firmware updates and issues of reliability very seriously and is taking extra steps to support a smooth release. As with our previous firmware updates, a secure erase is not required.
