Finally A Sub $500 Ubuntu Linux Based Desktop PC for Senior Citizens!

By

We just got word that KiWi PC has released a very interesting looking Linux based desktop computer for senior citizens. The KiWi PC is said to help the elderly remain connected with the world and up-to-date in the fast paced world of technology by offering a user-friendly desktop providing immediate access to customizable email, internet and software applications. The PC costs $499.99 shipped, but sadly the companies website doesn’t list any of the hardware specs. We tried to e-mail them at the e-mail listed on their site, but [email protected] bounces! We then called them and got someone on the phone and asked about the systems hardware specifications. After being put on hold and transferred around we were connected to a gentleman named Oscar that was able to look up the hardware and software specs for us. My 92 year old grandfather would have hung up by now, but we stuck with it. We were told the Kiwi PC is powered by an Intel Atom Processor D10 (1M Cache, 1.66 GHz), 2GB of DDR3 memory and has an 80GB hard drive that can be upgraded to 160GB. The Linux distribution being used on the Kiwi PC is a modified version of Ubuntu 10.10.

KiWi PC

Until now, there has not been an easy way for senior citizens to navigate the internet and stay connected to friends and family, said Oscar Ferreira, President of KiWi PC. Linux based KiWi PC provides the elderly with an easy way to stay in touch, learn and game online.
