Ahh… the little technology that could. Intel’s foray into the world of SMT on a chip never garnered as much attention as it could have, but it was nonetheless a nice bonus for those of us who had it. Start menu lag? Fuggetaboutit! Though with the recent introduction of true dual core processors, Intel has decided that HyperThreading is no longer needed, and will not be implementing the technology in their future products.
The answer is multicores, said Rattner, describing Intel’s new marchitechture push as “tera scaling”.
Intel is pushing multicores as a future technology introducing a Tera Scale programme to encourage developers to write to dual and multicores. Intel does this sort of thing, said Rattner.
