Facebook is Most-Searched Term in 2010

Facebook topped the list of most-searched terms on the internet for the second year in a row according to Hitwise Marketing Service. The company analyzed the top 1000 search terms for 2010 and said that the word “facebook” accounted for 2.11% of all searches. Social networking related terms actually accounted for more than 4% of the top 50 searches. This helped Facebook land as the top-visited Web site for the first time and accounted for 8.93 percent of all U.S. visits between January and November 2010. Google.com ranked second with 7.19% of visits, followed by Yahoo Mail (3.52%), Yahoo (3.30%) and YouTube (2.65%).

On the entertainment front, reality star Kim Kardashian was the top people search within the personalities category, Star Wars was the most-searched movie, and Lady Gaga was the most popular music search. Tiger Woods was the most-searched athlete, while the Dallas Cowboys dominated sports team searches. Overall, the most-searched people in news and media this year were Bret Michaels, Tiger Woods, and Sandra Bullock.
