EVGA SR-3 Dark Motherboard Shown at Computex – Intel LGA 3647 Motherboard
EVGA makes some of the best enthusiast motherboards on the market, so it shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone that they were showing off some new boards at Computex 2019. The board that we are seeing for the very first time is the EVGA SR-3 Dark, which is an LGA-3647 C621 motherboard that is capable of running the Intel Xeon W-3175X 28-core processor to its fullest potential. This is the first motherboard to be released in EVGA’s Super Record (SR) series since Classified SR-2 motherboard was released way back in 2010. Our review on that dual LGA-1366 socket board showed that we were able to get some incredible performance out of the Intel Xeon X5670 and Xeon X5570 processors. The SR-3 Dark only supports one processor, but we expect that it will allow users to get the most from the Intel Xeon W-3175X processor.
The EVGA SR-3 Dark will be coming out in August 2019 if all goes as planned and pricing will be announced at that time. Details on the board are being kept quiet, but just looking at the board reveals much to be talked about. The first thing that catches your attention is a massive custom water block that covers the Intel C621 chipset as well as all 20 of the boards power phases. There are six full-length PCIe 3.0 slots on the board and six DDR4 memory slots.
The power connectors on this board scream out that this board is targeted at overclockers looking to get the highest clock speeds from the Intel Xeon W-3175 processor. You have a single 24-pin ATX power connector along with four 8-pin CPU EPS power connectors. All of these are right-angled connectors to help with cable management. EVGA went with two U.2 slots and six SATA III headers. It is great seeing that EVGA went with two U.2 slots as ports as you can use multiple Intel Optane SSD 905P drives while keeping the PCIe slots free for graphics cards or whatever else you’d like to run. If you were wanting to run an M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD there are two M.2 22110 slots.
The rear panel on the SR-3 Dark has 3 Ethernet ports, 9 USB 3.0 connections, one USB Type-C connector and your usual audio headers.
Lastly, we should point out that this is an E-ATX format (12 inch 13 inch) motherboard. The other Intel C621 platforms on the market from ASUS and Gigabyte use the larger EEB form factor (14 inch x 14 inch). This means the EVGA SR-3 Dark will fit in far more cases than the competitors!
