Epic Games to Cover Shenmue 3 Refunds
The Epic Games store says that it is trying to break the Steam monopoly in the PC gaming realm. It’s trying to break the monopoly it says Steam has by landing all the exclusive games it can for the Epic Games Store and gamers aren’t happy about it.
One of the exclusives that Epic landed was the game Shenmue 3 and that made people mad. When the game was seeking backing on Kickstarter, it promised players Steam codes for the game before going Epic Games Store exclusive reports Eurogamer.
For PC gamers who want nothing to do with the Epic Store, Epic Games will cover the cost of refunds. Tim Sweeney said, “Epic is funding the cost of all Kickstarter refunds resulting from Shenmue III’s move to the Epic Games store, so that refunds won’t reduce Ys Net’s development funding.”
Shenmue 3 announced after promising the DRM-free Steam keys that it would be an Epic Store exclusive for an entire year. Sweeney also said Epic Games store will, “coordinate with colleagues at the other stores to ensure key availability or guarantee refunds at announcement time.”
