Eizo Introduces FORIS FS2333 IPS-Based Full HD Gaming Monitor

By

Eizo Nanao Corporation has introduced the FORIS FS2333, a 23-inch Full HD (1920×1080) home entertainment monitor. The FORIS FS2333 is designed for gaming as well as other leisure activities such as watching movies and editing photos. It features all-new tone mapping technology called Smart Insight with five settings for RTS (real time strategy) and FPS (first person shooter) games that EIZO co-developed with Fnatic, one of the world’s leading professional esports teams.

The monitor’s major features are Smart Insight which automatically identifies dark areas of an image and improves visibility; Smart Resolution which reduces blur in the picture without accentuating noise, working only on areas where it’s needed; Smart Detection identifies where on the screen a video or game is being played and applies super-resolution processing to sharpen the image while leaving other areas untouched.

Unusually for a monitor aimed at gamers, it doesn’t use the usual TN technology, which has fast response times, but suffers from problems of limited viewing angles, relatively poor colour quality and colour shift. Instead, it uses an IPS panel (LED lit) offering 178 degree viewing angles, with a 3.4ms gray-to-gray response time and a 0.05 frame input lag. Note that the refresh rate that this input lag refers to isn’t specified, but is highly likely to be 60Hz, since this is the standard refresh rate for LCD panels of all types. The monitor includes 0.5W stereo speakers built in. Availability will be in July, with the date being dependent on the country, but pricing has not been announced. For amateur digital photography enthusiasts, this monitor is compatible with EIZO EasyPIX, an optional color matching tool consisting of calibration software and a color sensor. EIZO EasyPIX calibrates the monitor’s brightness, color temperature, and gamma to specific values.
