Eargasm High Fidelity Earplugs Review
My personal Facebook page has been full of ads for multi-use earplugs by a company called Eargasm that claim a revolution in hearing protection has arrived. I have no clue why I was being targeted for such a campaign, but new and innovative products always manage to catch my attention. Eargasm Earplugs claim to provide a 21 dB drop (NRR is 16 dB) by using attenuation filter technology. That technology allows the full spectrum of sound to be reduced evenly and in theory shouldn’t leave you with muffled sound like you get with many foam and gel earplugs. The only kicker is that Eargasm ear plugs run $34.88 shipped on Amazon versus about $5 for a pair of gel ear plugs.
“Eargasm Earplugs is based out of sunny Southern California and started with the idea that in the 21st century, the simplistic foam earplug needed an upgrade. Foam earplugs are designed to completely block out the world around them. However, in today’s world there are so many situations where people still want to interact with their surroundings, just at a lower volume. Our earplugs patent pending design solves this problem by filtering, rather than blocking out, sound to a manageable level.
We originally envisioned our product to be best used at loud events such as concerts and sporting events. We soon realized though that our product could be used almost anywhere, anytime someone wants to turn the volume down. Whether its at a loud factory where workers still need to communicate with one another, or a noise sensitive individual who wants to enjoy a night out with loved ones at a loud restaurant. The applications of our product are endless and we are always excited to see the ever expanding list of situations and places our customers are using our product.” – Eargasm
After days of seeing the ads and looking into their product lines, I actually reached out to Eargasm Earplugs and asked if they’d like me to review a pair. After talking over e-mail a bit they sent over a pair of of their reusable high fidelity ear plugs.
They arrived in a gift box packaging and comes with two shell sizes to ensure a good fit for most people. If you want to switch shells you need to remove the attenuation filters and place them into the other set, which is quick and easy. You also get a waterproof aluminum carrying case for the ear plugs that makes storage or travel with the Eargasm Plugs super convenient.
I compared the Eargasm High Fidelity Earplugs to a couple different types of earplugs that I already owned and the difference was most certainly noticeable. The Eargasm plugs did lower the volume without affecting sound fidelity! They didn’t reduce the volume as much as the other pairs and these aren’t something you’d want to wear to shoot guns, go to the race track, use on the runway or other extremely noisy situations were you want as much volume reduction as possible. These are designed for concert goers, musicians practicing, riding your motorcycle, or numerous other environments. These would also be ideal for those with noise sensitivities and are looking for a discrete solution that will not leave you with badly muffled conversations. Over 3.5 million Americans live with an autism spectrum disorder and these can help lower everyday environmental sounds. I let a friend with tinnitus (a ringing in the ears) give them a try at a concert and he said he didn’t have his usual flare up from attending such a venue.
At the end of the day if you are looking to protect your your ears while in noisy areas, without compromising sound quality the Eargasm Earplugs are worth looking into. The attenuating filters deliver a clear sound experience while giving you hearing protection. The only downside is the cost at around $35 for one set, but can you really put a price on saving your hearing?
