* CPU overclocked (333MHz FSB x 11 multiplier – 3.66GHz)
** CPU overclocked to 3.66GHz and GPU set to 620MHz core and 940MHz memory
Results: Quake 4 runs on an updated version of the DOOM 3 graphics engine, so performance is expected to be on par with that of DOOM 3. We ran Quake 4 with the version 1.2 patch, which adds dual-core processor support. At 1280×1024 with 4xAA/16xAF Intel’s fastest dual-core processor does well, but it’s clear that a single GeForce 8800 GTX is teh best bang for the buck here. Moving from a single 8800 GTX to a pair for SLI improved performance, but not nearly as much as we noted in F.E.A.R.
