Tim Shafer, Ron Gilbert, and the rest of the team at Double Fine Productions are breaking the mold again. The dev team decided to go with a crowd-funding plan, in order to develop a new adventure game. The plan to have the fans fund the game’s development may have seemed crazy to some, but they hit their goal of $400,000 in just eight hours. The money for development is still pouring in from fans, but it isn’t going to waste, the extra income could be used on increased VO and music budgets possibly even additional-release platforms. Those interested in contributing to the project will be happy to know that should they pledge $15 they will be rewarded with Double Fine’s adventure game when it releases on Steam. The good news dosent end there, Minecraft creator Markus Persson has offered to fund a Psychonauts sequel. Nothing is official but that didn’t stop Schafer who said “If you’re wondering about Notch’s generous offer to help Psychonauts 2 happen, all I can say is that we are having a lovely chat about it!”. It will be interesting to see if other franchises from the past can be revived this way.
