DNSChanger Malware Causes Internet Blackout For 47,054 US Computers

The FBI shut down servers this morning that at one point supporting millions of users infected by the DNS Changer Malware. The FBI with the help of various organizations and companies was able to reduce the number of infected computers from 4 million to less than 250,000 over the last few months. According to security firm F-Secure there are just 47,054 computers online in the United States that are still infected with the DNS Changer Malware. If you are one of the 47,054 computers that are still infected you probably already know that the FBI has shut down DNS Changer’s surrogate DNS servers. We’ve been talking about the DNS Changer and the looming server shutdown here on Legit Reviews since April, so all of our readers should be online right now reading this news post! There are said to be 1.6 billion PCs worldwide, of which an estimated 339 million are in the United States. Having just 47,054 computers infected still isn’t that bad considering how many PCs are out there. The news made it should like 300,000 people were going to going to be cut off from the internet here in the United States, but this is really a non-event. It was nice of the FBI had the nonprofit Internet Systems Consortium to set up temporary servers for this many years.
