Details of Gigabyte’s GTX 680 Super OverClock WindForce 5X Revealed

By

We recently reported on Gigabyte’s upcoming GTX 680 Super OverClock WindForce 5X graphics card. However, at that time, all we had were some pictures of a rather interesting design. Now, Gigabyte have revealed more details of this card at their Tech Tour 2012 in Japan. Vital stats: the model number is GV-N680SO-2GD, the GPU is overclocked clocked at 1137MHz with 1202MHz boost; the 2GB GDDR5 memory is overclocked at 6400MHz effective; 8 phase VRM design for good overclocking and stability; 6+8 pin PCI-E power connectors.

That three slot wide cooler we revealed earlier has five 40mm fans (whiny noise?) has a large and dense set of cooling fins running the length of the card. The cooler is claimed to keep the card at 60C under full load, which is a fantastic result if proved in independent benchmarks. The card should be available in June priced at around $870, which isn’t a million miles away from the GTX 690 at $1000. This makes the Gigabyte card look rather poor value, no matter how good the engineering that went into it is, since the performance is so much less than a GTX 690. Also, we would have expected to see 4GB video RAM at that price. There are many more pictures at the link below (Japanese).
