The price premium DDR 400 enjoyed over DDR2 533 has shrunk to 1.4%, as DDR contract prices remained flat in the second half of January, while 512Mbit DDR2 533 prices increased to US$4.09! The most interesting part is that memory module makers can have gross margins of 50% for the segment. Simply amazing!
Prices of mainstream DDR remained flat sequentially, while DDR2 prices increased 3.54% (after growing 3.13% in the first half of January). With the spot price of 512Mbit DDR2 533 surpassing the US$5 level on January 20 and closing at US$5.03 on January 23, sources at DRAM makers noted that chipmakers can enjoy gross margins as high as 50% for the segment, thus attracting more vendors to produce these parts.
