Memory Bandwidth and Latency Benchmarking

SiSoftware Sandra 2014 SP3:

sandra

Sandra needs no introduction as it is the most popular memory performance benchmark available!

Crucial Sandra DDR4

Benchmark Results: The Sandra Memory bandwidth benchmark shows Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4 32GB 2400MHz memory kit had right around 54GB/s with the Intel XMP 2.0 settings. When we manually dropped the command rate from 2T to 1T we picked up about 1GB/s of memory bandwidth. Bumping up the memory divider from 2400 to 2666MHz greatly improved the memory bandwidth as we were up to 59GB/s. Dropping the timings down to 12-12-12-30 1T at 2666MHz gave us an incredible 61GB/s of memory bandwidth! By overclocking and tightening the timings we were able to improve performance by right around 13 percent!

AIDA64 Extreme Edition 4.70 Beta:

AIDA64 Extreme Edition 4.70 software is an excellent benchmarking tool for looking at memory performance on any desktop PC.

Benchmark Results: AIDA64 showed that the Crucial Ballistix Sport 32GB 2400MHz kit with the XMP profile settings had about 59.9GB/s of read bandwidth and 48.0GB/s of write bandwidth. By overclocking up to 2666MHz and using manual tightened timings of 12-12-12-30 1T we were able to improve that to 63.7.0GB/s read with no change whatsoever to write. The copy test showed a 14% improvement thanks to the overclock and tighter timings.

Benchmark Results: When it comes to memory latency we were getting 69.9 ns at 2133MHz and 2400MHz with looser timings. We were able to improve that by lowering the command rate at 2400MHz and then greatly reduce it by overclocking and tightening up the timings. We’ll take 58.8ns versus 69.9ns all day long. That is a 16% drop in latency thanks to doing some manual memory adjustments in the UEFI!
