Final Thoughts & Conclusions:

The Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB (4x4GB) 3300MHz DDR4 memory kit is pushing the limits on what the Intel X99 platform can handle with regards to memory clock frequency. The base clock speed on the Intel Core i7-5960X processor is 3 GHz, so this memory kit exceeds the clock speed of the processor by a decent amount. The turbo clock on the 5960X is 3.5 GHz, which isn’t too far off. Being able to run memory at the same speed as a processor is pretty insane! Not all Intel X99 motherboards and processors will be able to run 3300MHz and beyond. Corsair recommends using the ASUS X99 Rampage V Extreme or the ASUS X99 Deluxe motherboards if you plan on running their 3200MHz or 3300MHz memory kits as those are the boards they used for much of their qualification testing and they are known to work best at such high DRAM clock frequencies. One of our Intel Core i7-5960X processors was unable to run this kits XMP 2.0 memory profile and we contacted Corsair and was told to try bumping up the CPU Voltage to 1.025V to see if that gets it stable. That didn’t in our situation, so we needed to switch to a different processor and then we were up and running at 3300MHz on the DDR4 memory kit

When it comes to performance the Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 16GB 3300MHz memory kit was a beast, but there was very little performance gains to be seen moving up from a 3200MHz to 3300MHz memory kit. If you want the fastest memory kit that Corsair has to offer, price be damned, this is certainly the kit to get. If you cared about price versus performance it most certainly is not. The cost of the Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB 3300MHz DDR4 memory kit that we looked at here today is $894.88 Shipped. It should be noted that right now you can only buy this memory kit directly from Corsair and less than 100 kits have been made. This is a very tough kit to build due to how few DDR4 memory ICs can be binned at this speed and voltage. You are paying a huge premium to have the fastest kit available, but there is a market for a kit like this as Corsair has been selling to it for decades.
