Overclocking Performance

For starters, here is the default CPU-Z 1.49 screen capture showing both the memory and SPD tabs for you to see the starting point. This is what the kit defaults to when running off the integrated Intel XMP memory profiles on the ASUS P6T Deluxe motherboard. The Corsair Dominator 6GB PC3-12800 DDR3 triple channel memory kit runs with 8-8-8-24 timings at 1.65V in case you forgot. Since risking an Intel Core i7 965 processor doesn’t seem too smart we let the memory voltages remain at 1.65V and pushed up the Quick Path Interconnect (QPI) to see just how high we could get the kit while remaining fully stable.

The Corsair Dominator 6GB PC3-12800 DDR3 triple channel memory kit was able to reach 1820MHz with the stock timings and voltages, which is very impressive. This is an overclock of 14% and that 220MHz frequency boost should greatly help memory performance should one choose to overclock their system. Other than the base clock and the memory divider no other settings in the BIOS were adjusted and all the other motherboard voltages remained on ‘auto’ in the BIOS, so this was a quick and simple overclock.

Wanting to see what the kit could do with more relaxed timings I set them at 9-9-9-24 and left the voltage at 1.65V to see how high we could reach again. This time we hit a more impressive 1935MHz, which is 335MHz over the rated speed of the kit. This kit obviously has some room left to play, so if you pick one up don’t be afraid to overclock it as you don’t even have to mess with the voltages in order to get a respectable and stable overclock.
