Corsair Announces Force Series GS SSDs
Corsair today announced the Force Series GS solid-state drives (SSDs). The new SSDs, which offer the fastest overall performance in Corsair’s SandForce-based lineup, will initially ship in capacities of 180GB and higher. As with other Force Series drives, the Force Series GS SSDs are based on the SandForce SF-2200 SSD Processor, but add toggle NAND flash memory to boost random write speeds up to an amazing 90,000 IOPs. The Force Series GS SSDs are immediately available in capacities of 180GB, 240GB, 360GB, and 480GB. Prices (in USD) in the United States start at $189.99 for 180GB, $239.99 for 240GB, $349.99 for 340GB and $489.99 for 480GB capacities.
Toggle NAND does exceptionally well with random writes which can be the Achilles’ heel of an SSD. Force Series GS SSDs are capable of an astonishing 90,000 IOPs, or input/output operations per second. The raw transfer rate of an SSD is essential for overall performance and especially so when dealing with large and contiguous files. Force Series GS SSDs have a great transfer rate however, it’s the IOPs capability that comes into play when dealing with non-contiguous (aka random) files. Force Series GS performs very well in both areas.
