Chinese Gamers To Spend $3 Billion in 2014 On Mobile Games
SuperData specializes in market intelligence on free-to-play and digital games and has released a report that shows the Chinese mobile gaming market in on track to break $3 Billion in 2014 on mobile games! By comparison, the US mobile game market is estimated to be a smidgen larger at $3.2 Billion in 2014, but SuperData believes that it is showing signs of saturation and that the Chinese will soon overtake the US when it comes to the mobile game market. The worldwide mobile game market is doing well and is expected to bring in $21.6 Billion in 2014.
The growth of mobile gaming is partly due to affordable gaming devices like smartphones and tablets as they have a lower cost than traditional PCs and game consoles. We totally agree with this and recently met with ARM for their second annual Tech Day and learned that the performance of entry-level devices and their overall cost is continuing to decrease. ARM believes there will be entry level smartphones running Android powered by the single-core Cortex A5 SoC for just $20. That is simply amazing and that means the growth opportunities for mobile gaming are only going to be accelerating. ARM told us that manufacturing limits will likely prevent cost scaling below $20 as you have displays and batteries to contend with. We might see some $18 devices down the road, but that looks like the rock bottom floor price.
