Roccat and Other Sights

Roccat:

Roccat showed off their new keyboard, the Ryos Series MK Pro mechanical keyboard that allows for fully customizable per key illumination with N-key rollover to eliminate ghosting and a choice of four cherry key switches. Powering it all are two 32-bit ARM Cortex processors and 2MB of flash memory on board and also features an integrated media hub.

For those that like macros, the sky is the limit. There are three programmable ‘thumbster’ keys, five programmable macro keys and 94 other programmable keys. They are expected to be available in the first quarter for $149. They’ll have other versions like the MK Glow which is very similar but lacks the per key illumination and the MK which has no key lighting.

Random Sights:

With over 2 million square feet of exhibit space and only four of us on hand for a few days, it’s impossible to see everything. Throw in the private meetings with a good number of companies and we quickly run out of time to see anything on the show floor. Passing through, we snapped some shots of a few of the more interesting things to see between the numerous aisles of mobile phone cases and unidentifiable gadgets hoping to be the next big thing.

Outside of the Intel exhibit was a sculpture ostensibly created with notebook computers. Other than being plain art, we’re not quite sure what it represents, if anything. Either way, it was eye catching which was probably the point.

Another eye catching display was at the GoPro booth where they had a 4×4 Rally truck, this slick Ford GT 40, and a Ducati 1199 motorcycle; each decked out with GoPro cameras mounted at different points.

Speaking of Ducati, Cooler Master has some customized cases on display at their suite in the Vdara hotel in the Las Vegas City Center. This Ducati inspired case comes complete with exhaust and 1198 badging.

One of the hottest items at CES was unquestionably the 4K, 8K and OLED displays. They are truly awesome but so is the price tag right now. We didn’t take a lot of pictures of them because frankly, pictures don’t do them justice. You really have to see them in person although I doubt they’ll have any at the local Best Buy anytime soon.

The LG curved 3D OLED displays were also impressive but we didn’t get to spend any real quality time with them as there were large crowds impeding any attempt at doing so.

Finally, while there was a dearth of booth babes at the show (gets less every year), we did manage to get some shots of some hotties at iBUYPOWER’s Revolt unveiling held at the Pussycat Dolls club in the Hard Rock casino/hotel. Here is a fine example of one of the many pictures taken.
