CES 2011: SanDisk SSD, nPower PEG and House of Marley
SanDisk, Withings and nPower PEG
SanDisk’s World’s Smallest SSD
SanDisk was showing off the world’s smallest SSD called the iSSD. Smaller than a quarter and in a BGA package, this 64 GB drive will likely open a multitude of new types of products with high-capacity SSD storage by embedding the SSD into the controller board of virtually any type of device that can benefit from storage capabilities. The chip itself is only 1.85mm and we have large expectations for this tiny chip!
Withings
Withings had a very cool portable medical device that allows you to constantly monitor your blood pressure anytime by plugging it in to your iPhone or iPad. The mobile app will track your blood pressure history and lets you see when it is on the rise. For those with heart conditions or regularly high blood pressure, this device can be of great assistance to monitor your health.
nPower PEG
nPower is at CES 2011 and demonstrating their generation one personal energy generator. This device allows you to capture kinetic energy while you move around by simply carrying the PEG with you. The energy from magnets is captured and stored, then you can plug in a mini USB cable to charge your cell phone, PDA, tablet or any other personal electronic device. Here is a video of the nPower reps giving the details and their personal experiences while using the PEG for the last 2 to 3 years.
The nPower PEG is expected to get 1 minute of talk-time for 20-30 minutes of walking. While it is not expected to power tablets at this time, it seems that such a device would be possible to embed in a tablet for a self charging eReader or tablet device! The nPower PEG has a 1 year warranty and is on back-order for $159.99. They first started selling the devices in December 2010 and sold out of their limited supply very quickly.
