BitTorrent Tops 100 Million Users

By

Peer-to-peer file-sharing service BitTorrent announced on Monday that it now reaches more than 100 million monthly active users worldwide for its two software products BitTorrent Mainline (the original client) and Torrent (a lighter version). Other statistics: BitTorrent says it reaches more than 20 million daily active users on average. Users download its clients more than 400,000 times per day on average.

BitTorrent makes it easy to share and download large files online. It does this using the BitTorrent protocol, in which the large files are split up into small pieces which are then distributed from peer to peer, rather than from one centralized server. The protocol matches demand with supply, meaning that more users who are downloading a file, the more who are also uploading it to others.
