BitTorrent File Sharing Integration Coming to a Web Browser Near You

By

The BitTorrent file sharing protocol has been with us for over a decade now and has been enormously successful due to its efficiency and high data transfer speed. Now, BitTorrent Inc want to integrate it into the web browser, eliminating the need for a separate client program. They call this integration BitTorrent Torque, a JavaScript interface for programmers and have released an alpha version of the code to try out. They describe the benefits of this interface like so: “Simply put, it allows anyone to utilize our powerful technology to create completely fresh and new experiences for users with just a couple lines of code”.

BitTorrent Inc have also launched Torque Labs at torque.bittorrent.com to showcase this new browser integration, with such features as, Paddle Over: Drag and drop file transfers between computers, social sharing tools, social network integration and more, plus OneClick: Turn your torrent downloads into normal in-browser downloads. It’s well worth a look.

Torque is another step towards our commitment to empowering both developers and users. We strongly believe in this technology and the impact it can have. Torque Labs is part of our ongoing commitment to maintain an open conversation between our developers and our developer community. We are confident that together we can create some really kick-ass applications.
