Big Name Vendors Remain Wary of Windows RT
Windows RT, the version of Windows 8 designed to run on ARM-based tablets is not exactly being welcomed with open arms from big name vendors like HP, Dell and Toshiba. The big question is why. Is it because it’s just new and untried, or is there a deeper reason for this? Well, HP already scrapped plans for a Windows RT tablet back in June, because it wasn’t happy about their former software partner, Microsoft, competing with them in the hardware space with their Surface tablet. It looks like much of the rest of the industry is unhappy about this too, while even Asus and Lenovo who are rolling out Windows RT tablets are not showing as much enthusiasm for the platform as one might expect. We’ll know the answer to this question in just a few short months.
But it’s not all bad news. There was a crush of Intel-based Windows 8 laptops and hybrids announced at IFA this week. So, overall the Windows 8 ecosystem seems happy (relatively) and healthy. We’ll see what happens in the coming months with RT. It’s entirely possible that PC makers like HP and Toshiba are simply biding their time.
