ATI or NVIDIA – The Battle For Adult Gaming GPU’s
The Performance Numbers
Before we jump into the numbers and charts let’s take a look at the graphics engine that powers the game. thriXXX technology is powerful 3D software which provides the basis for various internet erotic applications. It offers a sophisticated animation system for the realistic 3D display, movement and interaction of characters. The technology is enhanced permanently and new versions are released regularly.
Fraps 2.8.0 was used to record the frame rates observed in Virtually Jenna version 2.01.002 and the results are graphed below.
When the game installs it’s set to run default in OpenGL mode and when using NVIDIA based graphics cards the gaming experience was found to be flaccid as the stuttering and jaggies were making Jenna less than attractive. Since the NVIDIA slogan is “the way it’s meant to be played” we were let down as Jenna wasn’t meant to be played like this. At resolutions of 1024×768 and 1600×1200 the NVIDIA GeForce 7900GTX averaged a meager 5 Frames Per Second (FPS) when using the default OpenGL mode. The ATI Radeon X1900XTX on the other hand ran the game smoothly for each resolution. It’s clear that NVIDIA needs a driver update to get OpenGL running correctly on the ThriXXX engine as when the action kicks into high gear they can’t keep up.
With the OpenGL testing completed the game was set to run in Direct3D mode and the results showed the reverse of what was found during OpenGL game play. The NVIDIA GeForce 7900GTX scored between 15 and 17 FPS better than the ATI graphics card it was compared to when when Virtually Jenna was run in Direct3D mode. It was also interesting to see that as resolution increased, so did the frame rate. Direct3D didn’t look as good as OpenGL, so if image quality matters to you then OpenGL is the only choice when it comes to Virtually Jenna.
