Atari Co-Founder Ted Dabney Passed Away
Any kid of the ’80s has spent time playing on the Atari game console. This was the game system to have back in the day when all you had to worry about was going to school and blowing into the cartridge if it didnt work. Ted Dabney was a co-founder of Atari along with Nolan Bushnell.
Dabney passed away over the weekend at the age of 81-years-old. The news of Dabney’s passing was announced by video game historian Leonard Herman. Dabney was a crucial part of creating the “Computer Space” game in the early 1970s.
He was also crucial to the creation of the coin-operated game Spacewar! that paved the way for Dabney and Bushnell to found Atari. Dabney was only part of Atari for a few months after its founding departing in 1973 reports Kotaku.
He sold his half of the company to Bushnell for $250,000. Dabney said that he didnt leave the company, that Bushnell had pushed him out. Despite that claim, the two were friends.
