Asustek to launch own-brand LCD TVs this month and 3G handsets next year
Asustek, a widely-known manufacturer of motherboards and other wares such as optical drives and video cards, plan to launch their brand of LCD TV’s either at the end of the month or near the beginning of December. Consider the sizes offered- 32, 37, and 42-inch- I believe if they can keep their prices low, they can definitely compete against the likes of Dell and maybe LG. On a side note, they are also releasing 3G cell phones at around the same time.
Asustek Computer will launch its own-brand LCD TVs at the end of this month or in early December, said Sunny Han, director for global brand business of Asustek yesterday. Initially, the LCD TVs will be available in two sizes, a 32-inch model and a 37- or 42-inch model, Han said, indicating that the own-brand LCD TVs will be built using TFT-LCD panels coming from a Japanese supplier, but using the company?s own display technology. Han declined to reveal the name of the LCD-panel supplier, but industry sources here indicated that the panels are coming from Sharp.
