Asustek Computer expects to ship 7-8 million Eee PCs for a global netbook market share of 20% in 2010 and the company also expects to remain as the second-largest netbook brand in 2010, according to company CEO and president Jerry Shen. As for whether iPad has caused impact to netbook demand, Shen pointed out that Asustek is still observing; however, he believes iPad’s functions and target markets are different than netbooks and the iPad is unlikely to create a replacement trend.

Commenting on market watchers’ estimates that Intel’s Atom processor shipments will rise from 32 million units in 2009 to 35-40 million units in 2010, Shen believes the netbook market will still maintain, but will see weaker growth in shipments than before. As most of the netbook brands have already phased out their netbook lines, the current netbook market is dominated by Asustek, Samsung and Acer while Hewlett-Packard (HP) still evaluating whether to push the line in the second half to maintain its leading position in notebook market, Shen noted.
