ASUS Plans on Selling 25 Million Motherboards in 2012 and Passing Dell in Laptop Sales

ASUS recently held a global sales meeting on December 5th and during this meeting the company set the shipment goals for its four major product lines for 2012. ASUS wants notebooks and netbook sales to surpass 22 million units with an internal goal of moving 23.8 million units. ASUS wants the ASUS Transformer and Transformer Prime to do well and expects the companies tablet PCs will reach at least three million units with the company internally expecting the volume to reach six million units, surpassing Samsung Electronics. In 2011, Asustek will ship 14.7 million notebooks and 4.8 netbooks and with the internal goal of shipping more than 23 million units in 2012, the company expects its ranking will surpass Dell and challenge the third largest notebook vendor worldwide.

For motherboards, Asustek will ship 23 million units in 2011 with the volume increasing by 5% on year to reach 24.5-25 million units in 2012. Since Asustek has already successfully expanded its gap with major competitor Gigabyte Technology, the company expects its gross margin in 2012 will remain flat.
