ASUS G51Vx 15.6″ Gaming Notebook Review
Final Thoughts
ASUS has once again produced a relatively solid mobile system with the G51Vx. With the size and weight of the G51Vx, solid and sound construction is very important. The only portion that I would be careful with is the outer chassis behind the LCD. This is the only exterior portion of the notebook that has a little too much flex for our likes.
Those who are looking for the ideal mobile gaming system for a reasonably attainable price will want to take a close look at the G51Vx. At $1594 at the time of writing, this system is well worth the money and will rival many desktops with its discrete NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260m mobile graphics card. The 2x320GB HDDs in RAID0, 4GB of RAM and Q9000 quad core processor certainly boosts overall system performance, too!
In case you hadn’t noticed, the bundle for the ASUS G51Vx gets you ready to game and travel to LAN parties like you’ve never done before! The Republic of Gamers backpack is of top-notch quality and is perfect for the Republic of Gamers G51Vx. Also included in the bundle is the Eee Stick. The Eee Stick consists of two hand held nunchucks much like the Nintendo Wii Nunchuck only the Eee Stick nunchucks are completely wireless powered by two AA batteries each. The Eee Stick communicates wirelessly to a USB dongle plugged into your computer. The Eee Stick nunchucks will move you around in your game via built in accelerometers while you battle to the death in your favorite first-person shooter or control your RPG! During our testing of the Eee Stick we found it to be very responsive and a great alternative to the traditional mouse+keyboard combination.
Performance in today’s latest DirectX 10 games like HAWX, Resident Evil 5 and Batman will run great on the ASUS G51Vx, but you may find a better gaming experience by turning the eye candy graphics settings down a bit or lower the resolution to boost the framerates on the GTX 260m. This may not appeal to some and for those who want the highest resolutions and the best graphics settings turned on, you may want to look for a mobile gaming system with a high-end mobile GPU.
Overall, our time with the ASUS G51Vx was up to our standards and ASUS has once again proved itself a force to be reckoned with in the mobile gaming market. ASUS continues to raise the bar with the little things that set their products apart, like a backlit keyboard and a strong bundle!
Legit Bottom Line: The ASUS G51Vx Gaming Notebook is perfect for the gamer that likes to travel to the occasional LAN party, but doesn’t want to mess with the hassle of transporting and setting up a desktop gaming rig. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260m provides ample performance for the gamer on the move and ASUS was wise in choosing it for this mainstream gaming notebook!
