ASUS GTX570 DirectCU II ENGTX570 Introduction
Asus has been around a long time and is one of the top rated motherboard and graphic card manufacturers in the world. In the graphics cards area they are well known for their innovative and attractive cooling solutions to deal with the heat generated by the latest round of GPU’s. This time around they sent us their take on the Nvidia GTX 570 with their custom cooling solution the direct CU II dual fan cooler on a custom PCB with the promise it can overclock like a wolf.
The last few rounds of Nvidia GeForce cards have provided a significant range of products at multiple price points and performances for which to choose. The top of the line single GPU cards are the 80’s series followed by the 70, 60, and 50 series. Lately it seems a lot of gamers have settled for the 70 series such as the GTX GeForce 470 or the current GTX GeForce 570. The reasoning goes that you can overclock that 570 to get more performance than a stock GTX 580 and shave as much as $150.00 off the price. Sure there are a few trade offs with this approach since the GTX 570 has fewer cores 480 vs 512 and lower stock clock at 732 MHz vs 772 MHz but with the right overclock in theory you can erase these short comings. While this card has that massive cooling solution the factory overclock is very mild at only 742 MHz which for a 10 MHz increase. The good news is to really overclock this FERMI you need need cooling and that is where ASUS steps up to the plate with their massive Direct CU II cooling solution that makes the card so thick it fills three slots in your case.
The ASUS GTX570 DirectCU II ENGTX570 has a current price of $319.99 shipped from Newegg after a $30 mail-in-rebate and comes backed by a 3 year limited warranty.
