ASUS has announced their Crosshair IV Extreme motherboard and they claim it pushes AMD performance since it has multi-GPU CrossLinx 3 technology. CrossLinx 3 technology allows you to have multi-GPU usability with graphics cards from different vendors and generations. This technology is likely already known to you as the Lucid HYDRALOGIX engine, but ASUS had to call it something different to stand our from the crowd. Being able to run various graphics cards from ATI and NVIDIA simultaneously to improve gaming performance is sweet. Now, when you upgrade graphics cards you can keep your old one with a board like this. The Crosshair IV Extreme uses the AMD 890FX chipset and retails for $299.99 in the US and $309.99 up in Canada on Newegg.

On Crosshair IV Extreme, a unique layout design features a total of five PCI Express expansion slots. Two provide dedicated native graphics card support for either a single GPU or two in CrossFire configuration. The additional three feature Lucid HYDRALOGIX and CrossLinx 3 technologies, which enable a mixture of graphics cards from different vendors and generations, with a total of four detectable and working at once.
