Arma II Mod Day Z To Go Stand-Alone Later This Year

By

It wasn’t all that long ago Day Z, a mod for Arma II, burst onto the scene gathering a large following. This barebones mod has taken Arma II from a game that had fallen out of favor to Steam best seller in no time flat. It’s now been stated by modder Dean Hall in an article on VG247 that they will be making the mod a stand-alone product in the future and that it will happen “certainly before Christmas.” It of course requires reaching some form of agreement first, with offers already being entertained, however so far its been felt that the offers received were only based on the mod’s success not on an understanding of the game itself. Dean Hall went on to say that “We’re really on borrowed time,” and “I want to see it become a standalone game, following the Minecraft model of a low price point, but that will only work if we say that everyone is going to pay, and in order for people to not feel ripped off we need to have a load of new content; so, things like base-building, tidying and cleaning up animations and add ragdoll physics as the like.” From the looks of things, the Day Z creator knows what needs to be done and how to do it, lets hope things continue on smoothly for this surprise diamond in the rough title to be.

The Day Z mod for ArmA 2 has been a runaway hit, boosting ArmA 2 sales and raising its profile among PC enthusiasts. The mod team has been open with its plans to spin off into its own stand-alone game, but it sounds like that’s happening sooner than expected.
