ARM Readies New Mali-450 MP Graphics Processor

By

ARM has announced the launch of the Mali-450 MP GPU. This new unit will provide next-generation performance for Smart-TV and Smartphone applications. This will be achieved by doubling the performance of the already successful family of Utgard architecture-based graphics products on the market today. The Mali-400 MP GPU, which already offers market-leading performance density due to its proven track record of performance and power efficiency, has been taken to the next step in the Mali-450 MP GPU. ARM has taken the efficient design they already have and improved upon it by adding further architectural optimizations which should maximize reuse of already available resources during operation. On top of that, the Mali-450 MP GPU offers scalability of up to 8 cores, while doubling vertex processing throughput. All this, combined with the Utgard family’s already significant API support, mature drivers, and fantastic software compatibility, should make the Mali-450 MP GPU the next step forward in graphical performance in smart-TVs, Android-based smarphones and even tablets. The new GPU will be using the latest OpenGL ES 2.0 acceleration standard and should already be available as of its launch on June 14th.
