Arctic Vs AMD Over “Fusion” Brand Name

By

Arctic (Arctic Cooling) a Swiss based company known world over for there cooling products has decided to sue AMD over the “Fusion” brand name. Arctic originally acquired the “Fusion” brand name from Boot Up International Ltd, and has since been using the “Fusion” name on its PSU (power supply) products. Arctic is as of now gathering evidence in order to take AMD to court over this so called trademark infringement. It should be noted Arctic’s “Fusion” trademark is only valid in Europe, which is still a very large market for AMD. It does seems odd however that Arctic would take AMD to court over the “Fusion” brand name. AMD does not use “Fusion” on any of its products, instead its only used in company slogans and internally as a reference to its APU architecture. Even so Arctic has sent letters to 18 dealers and distributors located in Germany, France and Austria to halt sales of all AMD “Fusion” notebooks, PCs, motherboards, and CPUs. It will be interesting to see how this case between Arctic and AMD proceeds.
