Apple TV 4.1 Update Brings Support For AirPlay and More

By

In conjunction with the iOS 4.2.1 update we have learned that Apple has released new firmware for the Apple TV. As anticipated, the 4.1 firmware upgrade adds support for AirPlay, the technology that allows devices running iOS 4.2 or Macs and PCs running iTunes 10 to stream music, photos and videos to the set-top. The update also includes VoiceOver support, which is designed for the visually impaired and audibly reads menu and content descriptions out loud. The speed of voice playback can be changed in the Settings menu. There users can also choose to enable password protection for AirPlay, or disable the function entirely. The update also brings two security fixes that you need. One is for one for vulnerabilities in FreeType and the other is for holes found in libpng. We updated our second generation Apple TV this afternoon and didn’t have any issues with the update process.

Apple TV 4.1 Firmware

AirPlay is a new feature for streaming music, video and photos wirelessly from iPad, iPhone and iPod touch to Apple TV, transforming Apple TV into a great accessory for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. iOS users also will be able to use AirPort Express and AirPlay to stream wirelessly to any stereo or powered speakers, or directly to AirPlay-enabled speakers coming to market in the months ahead.
