Apple Raises Retail Wages By 25% After Staff Poached By Rival Microsoft

Competition between Apple and Microsoft is fierce, to the point that Microsoft poaches Apple staff from their retail stores, in some cases even offering bonuses for staff to not work their two week notice period. Depleting Apple’s staff was not that hard for Microsoft to do, because Apple’s staff have long felt that they weren’t being paid enough, with the Genius tech support staff and educational teams being the most frustrated groups. In one store, they lost 11 staff to the Microsoft store less than 100 feet away.

Now, after a review by John Browett, Apple’s new retail chief, wages are going to be raised by a massive 25% across the board. The official line is that wages are being raised due to the positioning of Apple retail stores as high-end retail establishments. However, this doesn’t seem all that plausible, as no business would pay out more than they have to, while increasing wages to prevent haemorrhaging of staff makes perfect sense.
