Apple hosting Mac OS X event next week

By

On October 20th, Apple will host a “Back to the Mac” event where they are expected to unveil details of the next iteration of OS X, among other things. Typically, these events are preceded by much conjecture and speculation as to what else Apple may roll out to be the next big thing. So far, there haven’t been a lot of rumors circulating but perhaps the biggest may be an expected refresh of the MacBook Air. It’s doubtful we will hear anything official about the rumored Verizon iPhone.

Back to Mac Event

Invitations to a special event titled “Back to the Mac” showed up in tech press e-mail in-boxes just moments ago, featuring the above image of a lion peeking out from behind the Apple logo. Besides what we can assume will be an introduction of new Mac hardware, the invitation promises a peek at the “next major version of Mac OS X.” Since past versions of the operating system have been nicknamed after large cats (Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard), it appears that “Lion” may well be the next version.
