Antec Soundscience Rockus 3D 2.1 Speaker Kit Review
Antec Soundscience Rockus 2.1 Speakers Analysis
Setting the speakers up is super easy; everything pretty much hooks up with RCA jacks, and then a 1/8″ jack into your sound card. But, hey, this isn’t a
lesson on how to set these speakers up; it’s a review of what I thought of them so let’s talk about that.
No matter what form of media that I used to test the Antec Soundscience Rockus Speakers be it music, movies, games or streaming video, the Rockus
speakers were up to the task and they did it very, very well. To say that I was impressed with how they sounded is an understatement. The bass from the
sub-woofer was tight and in your face, the mids and the highs were in perfect balance and I do have to say that they gave my Klipsch Promedia speakers
a good whipping. Not only was the sound tighter, they actually sounded better than the Klipsch at high volumes. Now, I am not saying that the Rockus
speakers dominated, as I did prefer the Klipsch speakers during the movie portion of my testing, but I think the advantage there was that the Klipsch speakers have the THX algorithms built into them and that makes for better and more immersive movie watching to me.
Let’s talk about the movies. All of the movies that I watched during the testing sounded great, just like you were at the theater. The explosions were
booming. The dialogue was crisp and clear and seemed to come from within the same room as you. Even the sounds of poor Reagan being possessed by a demon were
realistic and it was like being in the same room.
Music is where these speakers really seemed to shine the most. I listened to everything from Elton John to the Red Hot Chili Peppers and, man, I have to
tell you it sounded great. A lot of computer speakers tend to be washed out in the high end and only seem to accentuate the mid tones and bass. Nope, not
here. All of the frequencies are represented very, very well. The bass thumps and that ever so sweet sound of the hi-hat cymbals was crisp and clear.
Being a drummer myself, I know what it should sound like and it sounded spot on.
Games on the Antec Soundscience Rockus Speakers were amazing, as well. With the 3D turned on I was immediately immersed in the games I played. I think we
all know from the other reviews that I have written I play a lot of Left 4 Dead 2. It sounded great because of the 3D sound it sounded to me as though
the in game sounds were coming from all around me. I have reviewed some 5.1 systems that can’t even accomplish that, so for a 2.1 system to do it you
know it has to be a quality system.
